Background:
The first LETS Co-operate Conference
was held on Saturday 23rd November 2002.
Planning for another Conference with the same title has now commenced by means of meetings and email correspondence. A challenging list of topics is being considered in conjunction with planning for a wider event - the third European Social Forum - to be held at several venues in London between 13th and 17th October 2004. LETSlink is part of a planning group for a Solidarity Village (following the experience of the second ESF in Paris) in which this one-day Conference is an "encapsulated event".

We address ourselves to issues of Local Poverty, Economic Justice and the Global South. We are developing a matrix with key words to stimulate proposals to be made for Plenaries, Seminars and Workshops for the ESF and Presentations and Discussion circles for our own event. The themes and keywords we have so far identified are based on an analysis of Capitalism in terms of private ownership of the means of human survival, both natural and man-made, the use of this for private profit, and our interaction with the global ecology. There will be a bias towards our own special interest areas, ie new developments in the Social Economy, known in France as the Solidarity Economy, and especially with the theory, technology and practice of Local Exchange Trading Schemes.

Topics for the Conference have initially been informed by contact with the • London Social Forum • Campaign for Co-operative Socialism • Campaign for Interest-Free Money • Christian Council for Monetary Justice • Co-operators for Peace • Fair World Project • Forum for Stable Currencies • Global Justice Movement • Letslink UK • Letslink London • London Global Table • Open Capital Network • New Socialist Network • Peace Dialogue • and many colleagues all over the world.

ORGANISATIONS, NETWORKS, ASSOCIATIONS AND INDIVIDUALS ARE WELCOME TO AFFILIATE AND CONTRIBUTE TO THE SUCCESS OF THIS EVENT, BY MEANS OF FUNDING, SPONSORSHIP, PARTICIPATION, AND CONTRIBUTING PAPERS. WE WILL REPORT ON THE OUTCOME OF THE PROJECT ON THIS WEBSITE.
